Environment
The Environment Committee has a heavy work programme as an environmental-friendly society is on the agenda of the Lisbon Strategy. The member enterprises of CEEP active in the water, waste water, waste and waste treatment but also in the energy and transport sectors have to include an environmental dimension in their activities.
The Environment Committee drafts opinions on legislative initiatives from the EU Commission in order to have the concerns of the CEEP member enterprises taken into account at EU level. It also drafted CEEP opinions on its own initiative in order to draw the attention of the EU legislator on the situation and the requests of their member enterprises as they are entrusted with public service obligations.
In 2007, the Environment Committee is particularly dealing with climate change issues, in close collaboration with other CEEP Committees (Energy and Transport). Water policies remain another major concern for the Environment Committee.
