Equally Diverse
In relation to the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All, CEEP launched a project entitled, “Equally Diverse”. The project was co-funded by the European Commission, the aims and objectives of the project were to disseminate and raise awareness of the work of the European social partners to promote equality and non-discrimination at national and local level; to exchange information and good practices implemented following the adoption of the Framework of Actions on Gender Equality by CEEP, ETUC and UNICE/UEAPME in 2005, as well as to highlight the benefits of a wider equality and diversity strategy to the delivery of public services and therefore the wider goals of the Lisbon strategy and to encourage social dialogue in this area at national and local level.
In October 2007, CEEP organised a European conference to exchange good practices on equality and diversity policy in public services. The conference was held during the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union in Portugal, not only to strengthen the links with the priorities of the presidency, but also to publicise the priorities of the European Year.
This Conference gave the opportunity to exchange information and learn from good practice, the goal of the event is to draw up policy lessons and draw up a CEEP declaration on how to promote equality and diversity through social dialogue in support of the European Year.
CEEP invited representatives from the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) to this event to have a more representative audience while improving the debate and providing other point of views. The main event of the project is addressed to a European audience. Around 50 representatives from different EU 27 attended the event and contributed their expertise to the Conference. As a result from this project, CEEP published an updated an expanded version of our compendium “Equally diverse – Good practices in the public services”, in time for the closing conference of the European Year in Lisbon on 20/21 November 2007.
